About Me

blogMy name is Rebekah Eckard, and I’m an Alabama native living in Berlin with love for children’s books, running trails, and my people. I’m a preschool teacher by trade, who moved to Berlin in 2016 for a 9-month internship and never looked back.

There are few things that captivate me more than a good story, and I believe that’s true for all humanity. We forever seek to find stories that resonate with us, and perhaps help us understand our own story a little better. I see this every time I open a book for my class. The children lean forward, their little bottoms rising off the seat, just to get a little closer and hear a little better. They are longing for a good story.

And I want to give them one. I want to tell them a story that is as full of truth as it is beauty. I want to teach children that yes, monsters do exist in this cold and dark world, but so do Heroes and Knights and Princes. I want to tell a story of good overcoming evil, so that they may see firsthand that even the smallest light can repel the darkness. I want to tell a story that no matter what unbearable, unspeakable things my students may see, they may know in their hearts there are some truths that are not relative and there is some beauty that has not been marred.

This site started as a challenge for me in 2015 to spend 15 minutes every day creating something, the fruits of which were posted on this blog. Nearly four years later, and the habit of creativity I formed during that year still spurs me on. It was during that year that I rediscovered a love for writing and began writing “a short story” that has since been steadily growing into a children’s novel over the last few years.

I hope you come here and find a good story, but I also hope you leave here inspired to go a write (or paint or compose or sculpt) a good story of your own.
